The Indy Jazz Fest is entering its 11th season with new management presenting the best of local, regional, and international jazz talent.
Throughout the year, Indy Jazz Fest will also focus on presenting jazz concerts in and around the city of Indianapolis at area parks as part of the Indy Parks concert series, plus an array of education programs in schools.
The Indy Jazz Fest will take place Sept. 21-27 in a variety of venues. The first four days feature performances in jazz clubs and theatres across the city including The Jazz Kitchen, The Chatterbox, Clowes Hall, and the Madame Walker Theater.
On Sept. 25 David Baker is scheduled to present a special tribute to Indianapolis jazz trumpet legend Freddie Hubbard at the Madam Walker Theater. On Sept. 26 and 27, the Indy Jazz Fest moves to The Lawn at White River State Park, the 27th being a Family Day for outdoor activities and concerts.
In addition to the special Freddie Hubbard Tribute presented by David Baker on Sept. 25, the world’s premier Latin Jazz musician, Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band, have been booked. The full line-up of regional, national, and international jazz artists will be announced in late July/early August at a gala event in Indianapolis.

The mission of Indy Jazz Fest is to showcase, unify, strengthen, and perpetuate Indianapolis’ important jazz heritage through a week-long, world-class music festival. Indy Jazz Fest has become a cultural icon in just 10 years as the festival features top international artists. The 2009 Indy Jazz Fest begins a new chapter in its storied history with an increased emphasis on jazz education, with a newly formed partnership with the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation, and Indianapolis’ jazz legacy. This focus will enable the festival to connect with many of the top arts organizations as it weaves the legacy of Indianapolis through art, film, sculpture, and music. The Indy Jazz Fest will ultimately reach upwards of 40,000 people through a combination of performances, workshops, school concerts, master classes, community partnerships, and the unification of the Indianapolis arts scene.
