AVON —
Finding funding for the new YMCA project in Avon has become a top priority for organizers.
This week the local YMCA board unveiled a legacy program to help raise funds for the campus that will be built on the north side of U.S. 36, across from the Goddard School and Terry Lee Honda.
“This project is critical for Hendricks County,” said Dr. John Sparzo, vice president of medical affairs for Hendricks Regional Health. “This will help promote a healthy lifestyle for our residents. Are you aware that two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese?”
Sparzo spoke to a group of community leaders during an open house Thursday at Charbonos in Avon. The restaurant hosted the event to help spur sponsorships.
“The YMCA gives us an opportunity to impact the quality of life for our community,” Sparzo said. “I can’t wait to see all the things we will be able to do in this facility.”
The legacy program gives businesses, families, and individuals an opportunity have their names permanently displayed at the new facilities. There are several opportunities available including pool areas, different fitness rooms, and offices.
Hendricks Regional Health has committed to a partnership with the YMCA.
Donnis Mizelle, CEO of Hendricks Power Cooperative, said, “We would never be where we are without our wonderful partnership with Hendricks Regional Health.”
Mizelle is one of several business leaders sitting on the YMCA board.
“I want to thank you for your vision,” Mizelle said. “I’m an avid fitness person. And unfortunately that means that I get a great many injuries. This facility will be great for people like me who become frequent fliers.”
The facility will cover several rehabilitation opportunities for patients who will graduate and then be able to utilize the YMCA.
Dr. Robert Sexton of Avon Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery said, “This is a big deal for Hendricks County. This is an opportunity to create a legacy that will be there forever.”
Several community leaders have already committed to sponsorships. Their names and the names of those who donate in the future will be placed on the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA Founders Recognition Wall.
There will be another opportunity to learn about sponsorship opportunities at 5:30 p.m. June 25 at Boulder Creek in Brownsburg.
