Bikers ride for Faith in Action

By Andrea Hirsch

BROWNSBURG — Faith in Action volunteers have been providing compassionate care by visiting people who are lonely or ill, offering transportation to medical appointments for those who cannot drive, and helping with errands, housework, and meal preparation for the past 13 years.

On Oct. 18, motorcycle riders will not only be riding to benefit one family, but their charitable dollars will expand to hundreds of families in Hendricks County per year, said Christy Herris, Faith in Action program director.

“The ride is a nice opportunity to get different age groups and a different part of the population aware of who we are and to learn what Faith in Action is,” Herris said.

The ride will begin at Calvary Baptist United Methodist Church, 575 W. Northfield Drive, Brownsburg. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Cost is $20 per bike.

Participants will ride through Hendricks County, ending back at the church where they can enjoy a chili lunch, raffles, and prizes. A rain date has been set for Oct. 25.

“Our goal is to raise as much money as possible so we can continue giving out very personalized service,” Herris said. “The ride is a very easy way to contribute.”

Herris said all proceeds from the ride will go to support the Faith in Action program. The program allows the organization to provide a source to enable health care and to fulfill a large need for transportation in Hendricks County.

Faith in Action is also looking for volunteers of any faith. For more information on the event or to become a volunteer, call Herris at 858-1420 or visit the website at www.fiahendricks.org.
