INDIANAPOLIS — The Indy Jazz Fest presented by Marsh recently announced its 2012 dates and initial lineup.
The annual finale at Opti Park in Broad Ripple will now take place over two days, Sept. 15 and 16. The week-long celebration is Sept. 10-16. The lineup in Opti Park will feature headliners Stanley Clarke and George Duke on Sept. 15. Brian Culbertson will headline Sept. 16.
The artist announcement made at the Rhythm! Discovery Center marks the beginning of the festival's 14th year and is a celebration of Indy Jazz Fest's year-round dedication to strengthening the Indianapolis jazz and arts scene.
Additional festival performers over the course of the week-long celebration will also include the Aaron Diehl Quartet, Gerald Albright, Robert Glasper Experience, The Latin Tinge, Slide Hampton, Karl Denson, and Mark Winkler and Manhattan Transfer's Cheryl Bentyne, with the rest of the lineup to be announced throughout the summer. The 2012 festival will be conducted over a seven-day period in many locations around the city. This year's featured venues include the Indiana Landmarks Center, Cabaret at The Columbia Club, The Jazz Kitchen, and the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center at the University of Indianapolis Ñ all leading up to the two-day outdoor grand finale on the grounds of Opti Park at the Indianapolis Art Center in Broad Ripple. Gates open at 4 p.m. that Saturday, with music starting at 5 p.m. Gates open at 2:30 p.m. that Sunday, with music starting at 3:30 p.m. Free shuttle parking will be available at the Glendale Center East overflow lot. Throughout the week, internationally-renowned jazz artists will share the stage with regional, local, and student performers.
Now in its fourth year as presenting sponsor, select central Indiana Marsh supermarkets will again serve as the ticket outlet for purchasing advance discount tickets. Tickets go on sale Aug. 1. Attendees can pay $25 on the regular general admission ticket price of $30 when buying in advance at Marsh. Returning this year will be the VIP membership ticket and the popular week-long JAZZpass, in addition to one- and two-day passes for Sept. 15-16.
