Members of the First Baptist Church of Plainfield are busy planning their fifth annual Joy Prom. The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. April 17 in the church’s Family Ministry Center.
This is a formal dance given for the mentally and physically challenged in the surrounding areas. These people may each bring a guest, which may be a date or a caregiver.
There is no charge for the special event meant to give guests a night to remember. The theme this year is “Moonlight & Roses.”
Formal dresses and vests with matching bow ties are available for those who want to borrow them.
Guests may arrive at 6 p.m. for make-up, hair styling, manicures, or shoe shines just prior to the dance.
A separate room will be available for parents or caregivers who choose to stay for the evening. A representative from Special Olympics will be on hand to share information, answer questions, and sign-up those who may be interested.
All are welcome; however, reservations are required. Those interested who did not receive an invitation, which includes the reservation card, may call the church office at 839-8163 and an invitation will be sent promptly.
