The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is currently undertaking traffic signal improvements that will enable pedestrians to more safely cross U.S. 40 at several locations in Plainfield.
Traffic signals on U.S. 40 at Carr Road, Shady Lane, Perry Road, and Ronald Reagan Parkway will have new pedestrian crossing signals that will enable pedestrians to cross these intersections. The new pedestrian crossing signals will enable handicapped residents to access one of Plainfield’s busiest shopping areas from Ronald Reagan Parkway to Carr Road.
In addition, INDOT is lengthening the eastbound U.S. 40 left turn lane to northbound Perry Road. This improvement should allow more vehicles to safely line up to turn north on Perry Road.
“We are pleased that INDOT is making these improvements to U.S. 40,” Plainfield Town Council member Bill Kirchoff said in a press release. “The new pedestrian signals on U.S. 40 and existing pedestrian crossing signals at U.S. 40 at Avon Avenue, Center Street, and Vestal Road will make Plainfield one of the most walkable communities in Central Indiana.”
INDOT officials plan to have the project completed in June.
