Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman recently announced the 10 winners of her fourth annual Celebration of Hoosier Women Artists competition. The contest is conducted annually in March to coincide with National Women’s History Month.
“The competition this year was incredibly difficult to judge,” Skillman said in a press release. “More than 180 very talented Hoosier women from throughout the state entered their original works.
“These women artists illustrate the fact that Indiana is home to incredibly talented women. The works they submitted were as diverse as the women themselves. It is an honor to display their art in my office.”
Skillman will personally recognize the winners March 31 at the Statehouse.
Dr. Jean Robertson, professor of art history at IUPUI’s Herron School of Art and Design, assisted with the judging of the 184 submissions. Skillman ultimately selected the 10 winners, after considering feedback from her staff and Robertson.
The winning pieces will be on display in the lobby of Skillman’s office and on her website for one year, beginning in early April.
