Tickets for the Hendricks Symphonic Society's 2010-11 season, titled "Travels in Europe," are now available.
This series of seven concerts will take attendees on a musical tour of Europe that begins in Germany. Titled "Oktoberfest," the first concert - Oct. 15 and 17 - will feature the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, performed by locally renowned artist Ariana Kim and the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra.
Later that month, the choir will take concert goers through European castles and cathedrals with their "Going Baroque" concert - Oct. 29 and 31. Year's end finds them in England, with performances of Handel's "Messiah" on Dec. 17 and 19.
On Jan. 30, conveniently scheduled on the Sunday between football playoffs and the Super Bowl, small ensembles will perform a free chamber concert at Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church that features music written during the European Romantic era.
The next month they will cross the Baltic with the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra to experience the music of Russia on Feb. 25 and 27, and just in time for St. Patrick's Day, they will be back in the British Isles for a true Celtic celebration with The Hendricks Symphonic Choir, The Grimes Girls Celtic Duo, and The Irish Dancers of Indianapolis. That performance is scheduled for March 11 and 13.
The season will end in Italy as the choir and orchestra join forces to present Giuseppe Verdi's powerful Requiem on May 20 and 22.
All subscription concerts, except the chamber concert, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and 3 p.m. Sundays at Avon Middle School South on U.S. 36. Season tickets cost $40 for adults and $20 for students. Tickets may be purchased online, or order forms may be downloaded from the website at www.HendricksSymphonic.org.
