Library has eBooks available for Kindle

The Indianapolis Public Library’s eBook collection is now compatible with the Amazon Kindle eBook reader. Patrons can download popular and classic eBooks to a Kindle device or any mobile device running the free Kindle app.

To get started, patrons can visit the library online at www.imcpl.org and select the “Your Library @ Home: Downloadables and more” link from the homepage.

Kindle users can browse the library’s collection of bestselling and classic eBooks from a PC or Mac computer, check out titles using a library card, and select “Get for Kindle” to deliver eBooks to their Kindle device or any device running the free Kindle app.

To download eBooks for the Kindle, visit the library web page at http://ecollection.imcpl.org.

The library also offers eBooks and audiobooks for use on a PC or Mac computer and popular mobile devices such as smartphones, MP3 players, iOS and Android devices, along with eBook readers such as the Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony Reader.

The library’s growing collection of downloadable eBooks totals about 17,000 titles, the majority of which are available for Kindle users. These are available through a partnership with OverDrive, Inc., a global leader in eBook distribution for libraries and schools. In addition to the OverDrive materials, patrons can download more than 34,000 free public domain eBooks that never expire or count against a patron’s loan limit. Patrons may copy them, give them away, or re-use them under the terms of the Project Gutenberg License included with the e-books.

From January through September, the library has circulated 72,845 eBooks, compared to 21,484 for the entire year in 2010.
