Mental Health America of Hendricks County (MHAHC) is holding its annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser, Send A Hug. Each year, MHAHC offers a choice of Valentine gifts that are delivered by friendly “bears,” complete with a bear hug.
This year the gift choices include a soft, stuffed porpoise with a balloon and chocolate kisses; a soft, stuffed puppy with a balloon and chocolate kisses; a soft, stuffed cow with a balloon and chocolate kisses; a Valentine mug with a $5 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card, a balloon, and chocolate kisses; and a Valentine box with a $5 Family Video gift card, a package of microwave popcorn, a box of theater candy (assorted), and a balloon.
Gifts will be delivered Feb. 12 anywhere in Hendricks County and just over the county lines. Photos of the gift choices are available on the website www.mhahc.com and samples are available in the office. Photos of the gifts may also be faxed to anyone who would like to see them.
The gifts are $12 each with the proceeds used to benefit the programs of MHAHC.
MHAHC offers a variety of programs throughout the community to benefit people with mental illness and also to promote mental wellness. These include education for children on topics such as autism, substance abuse, honesty, and bullying. MHAHC also offers parent education, information and referral, support groups, ombudsman services, Christmas Gift Lift, and Connections, a socialization program for people with chronic, severe mental illness.
The group is also involved in several community collaborations that work to strengthen and better the community, including the Hendricks County Tobacco Prevention and Intervention Coalition, the Hendricks County Substance Abuse Task Force, the Hendricks County Minority Health Task Force, the Sexual Violence Task Force, and the planning committees for the Hendricks County Kids Fair and the Women of Influence Conference.
