PLAINFIELD — Pat Kasubjak is a Colts fans who has enjoyed season ticket status since 1989. She and her daughter, Polly Spence, didn’t think twice about heading to Miami to see their favorite boys in blue.
At the age of 75, Kasubjak said she was afraid this could be her last chance to see the Colts win a Super Bowl.
“I got the call and they said if I wanted them, I had two tickets to the Super Bowl,” she said. “Season ticket holders are in a draw for tickets. We weren’t chosen in ‘07 so I was really happy to get that call this year.
“I thought I better take advantage of it this time around since I’m coming to the end of my time of running around and driving back and forth.”
Spence said she and her mother will be decked out in their Colts finery.
“We’ll be wearing our Manning jerseys,” she said.
Spence is no stranger to Florida or the New Orleans Saints.
“I went to school at the Florida Institute of Technology and then lived in Louisiana for a while,” she said.
Kasubjak said her son, Chuck Kasubjak of Brownsburg, is a Purdue graduate.
“And I have a grandson who is a Purdue graduate, so Drew Brees is also a big draw for us,” she said. “It’s too bad they can’t both win, but we will definitely be rooting for the Colts.”
Spence said she’s happy to see the Saints in the Super Bowl.
“But they’ll just have to be happy to be there, so we can win,” she said.
The mother/daughter duo said the game itself is the big draw for them, but all of the other activities will be fun as well.
“We’ll go early to see the exhibitors,” Kasubjak said. “But I am really looking forward to getting into our seats.”
She said her season tickets are in the 10- to 15-yard line area in the 16th row.
“We started way up in the upper deck, but now we’re down were you can see the football players,” she said. “During the Super Bowl, we’ll be in the upper level but in row two. I’m really happy about that.”
She said she has trouble standing for long periods of time and only having one row of people in front of her cheering will make her viewing experience better.
“In 2007 I had both knees replaced, so it’s hard for me to stand,” Kasubjak said. “That’s another reason why I wanted to go this year. I may never have the chance to go again.”
She said she’s already had a ball following the Colts this season.
“Every home game, season ticket holders get prizes,” Kasubjak said. “My daughter said to me during a game in November, ‘Hey mom, your name is on the screen.’ A few weeks later I had a game ball sent to me. There’s a Colts helmet at one end and a San Francisco helmet on the other end. For Christmas, my son gave me a beautiful glass container to display it. I’ve been very lucky this year.”
