INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department SWAT team took Zachary Pipes, 18, Indianapolis, into custody Wednesday morning, putting a non-violent cap on a contentious situation.
Police had received reports that Pipes was brandishing a firearm at neighbors in the 2000 block of N. Euclid Ave. When officers arrived, they say Pipes went into the home and refused to come out.
At th etime, officers were unsure if Pipes was the only one inside the house, and the IMPD Hostage Negotiation Unit attempted multiple times to establish communication with Pipes or anyone else who may have been in the residence but were unsuccessful.
They then deployed tear gas into the home, which allowed a female that had been inside to come out. She advised policie that Pipes was still inside. When he still refused to come out, SWAT officers went inside and got him.
Pipes was arrested and charged with intimidation and resisting law enforcement.
