BHS senior plans community event

BROWNSBURG —

Elizabeth Bockrath has decided to give back to the community by organizing the Brownsburg Community Jamboree — a family-friendly game event — from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 16 at Brownsburg High School. Attendees should enter through Door 15.

She said participants will be able to play a variety of games from Bingo to Twister.

“We’re also doing carnival games like corn hole and the rubber ducky game,” Bockrath said. “We’re also going to have a silent auction.”

Admission will be a small monetary donation. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Sheltering Wings, a domestic violence shelter in Hendricks County.

Bockrath is currently looking for people in the community who may want to have a booth at the event, donate items or funds, or to donate games to be played.

“We’ll take any donations,” she said. “Like if you have corn hole boards we can use or even just plywood sitting around you would like to donate, we will make use of it.”

She said they need everything from face paint to bottles of soft drinks for the ring toss game.

“We would love things like temporary tattoos and candy, which are great prizes for kids,” she said.

The event has a Facebook page at www.facebook/brownsburgcommunityjamboree. Those who would like to send donations through the mail may do so by mailing them to P.O. Box 352, Brownsburg, IN 46112.

Bockrath, 17, is a senior at BHS. She decided to do the event as a senior project even though it’s not required by the school.

“I wanted to do something that was bigger than me,” she said.

She is a band member and is co-president of the school’s Creative Writing Club. She is also an active member of the youth group at Church@Main in Brownsburg.
