Ms. Wheelchair Indiana Pageant seeks entrants

People On Wheels' Ms. Wheelchair Indiana Pageant announces its 2013 program and calls for entrants to the 2013 Ms. Wheelchair Indiana competition.

The program is March 16 in Eli Lilly Hall at the Indiana Historical Society, 450 W. Ohio St., Indianapolis. This year's winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize. Festivities begin with a reception at 3 p.m. and will culminate that evening in a formal crowning ceremony.

For an application or more information, contact the coordinator for the event by e-mailing to editor@peopleonwheels.org or by calling People On Wheels at 946-8115.

Contestants must be women between the ages of 21 and 60, be a U.S. citizen, use a wheelchair or scooter in public, and have resided in Indiana for the last six months. Marital status is not a criterion. Communication skills and advocacy of the disabled are especially valued.

The Ms. Wheelchair Indiana program gives voice to the disabled condition, provides a platform for advocacy, and promotes understanding between the disabled and the able-bodied.

As Ms. Wheelchair Indiana, the winner will have the opportunity to help educate the public, advocating for people with disabilities through media interviews and school, church, and civic appearances. Her reign will culminate at the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant.

People On Wheels is a news and information website for people who use wheelchairs with targeted sports, breaking news, research information, and accessibility information, serving people who through illness or injury share many of the same interests and health issues due to impaired mobility.
