INDIANAPOLIS —
Gennesaret Free Clinics (GFC) invites all in the community to celebrate its 25th birthday at its annual Art For Beds fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. April 28 at the Conrad in downtown Indianapolis.
The event supports GFC’s work within the community of providing health care to those who fall outside of the traditional safety net health system.
GFC, an award-winning, non-profit organization serves those who do not have access to healthcare. Founded in 1988 by Dr. James Trippi, the organization started in a local soup kitchen.
Today, GFC has medical clinics in four emergency shelters, two local food pantries, and three medical van sites — all which are staffed by volunteers.
In addition to these services, dental care is provided at one medical clinic site; women are supported with GFC’s Women’s Health Services; and a Health Recovery Program provides care for homeless men released from a hospital institution who still require regular medical care.
In 2012, GFC medical volunteers provided care for more than 5,300 patients. The GFC Dental Clinic recorded more than 2,500 dental patient visits. More than 800 women received breast health education with about 200 well women exams and more than 200 mammograms.
At Art for Beds, artists and businesses donate paintings, sculptures, services, and other items to help raise funds required to support the Health Care Services provided by GFC.
