Six shot, one dead in westside park shooting

INDIANAPOLIS — Police were dispatched about 12:30 a.m. to the corner of West 21st Street and Historic Oaks Way after receiving a call of a female in distress.

They found a 21-year-old female in the passenger seat of a car suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the right leg and hip.

A second female, 20, was in a separate car with an apparent gunshot wound to the leg, in addition to an injury suffered from being allegedly run over by a vehicle. It was around this time that a third female victim was located near the entrance to the diamonds at the park. She was reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The three victims were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Shortly thereafter, a 21-year-old man was reportedly found in a vehicle suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the right hip and shin, and was transported to Wishard Hospital. Police say he is a person of interest.

Officers then received knowledge that another victim was found on Westhaven Drive in a vehicle.

IMPD then was notified that an additional male, 25, had checked into the emergency room at IU West Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound to his hand and food. He too is believed at this time to have been involved in the incident.

More information will be made available as it is released.
