BROWNSBURG — BROWNSBURG — For almost two months, a group of volunteers has been working to scare the pants off of Hendricks County residents. A committee called the “Boo Crew” has been working diligently to form Hauntsburg, a haunted house that they want to be the best haunted experience in Hendricks County.
Hauntsburg is the combination of the Haunts of Hidden River Haunted Hayrides in Brownsburg and the Field of Screams Corn Maze in Danville’s Beasley’s Orchard coming together in one scary Brownsburg location.
Volunteers have designed the 21,000 square foot haunted house as a town, comprised of 18 areas including the mayor’s office, mortuary, jail, and a “dead and breakfast.”
The creaking doors open to the public Oct. 8 and run from 7 to 11 p.m. each Friday and Saturday in October. Tickets are $10, or $8 for senior citizens and military personnel with ID.
Tickets go on sale 15 minutes before the doors open. The Hauntsburg crew will continue all tours for each night until all ticket holders have toured the creepy town.
The creators of Hauntsburg agree that the experience is not for the faint of heart. But the town will feature “Hardly Haunted” nights from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 14, 21, and 28. These tours are designed for families with children and the not-so-brave, and feature a “lights on” tour and a “slightly haunted puppet show.” Tickets for that tour are $5 for all ages.
Concessions are available each night of the tours.
Hauntsburg is an all-volunteer event that donates 100 percent of its net proceeds to the community. This year’s funds will go the Brownsburg Parks Foundation, Project A.N.G.E.L., Project Lifesaver, and other areas determined to be beneficial by the committee.
A portion of proceeds will also be used to cover operational costs associated with funding the event.
Hauntsburg is at 710 E. Main St., Brownsburg. For more information, visit the website at www.hauntsburg.com.
