AVON — Avon Town Manager Tom Klein announced Tuesday that the mandatory water use restrictions here for Citizens Water customers have been reduced to voluntary measures. The change is effective at noon Wednesday.
Klein said Citizens Water informed town officials that the mandatory restrictions, which had been effective since mid-July, can be lifted because reduced water consumption and recent rainfall have helped stabilize local reservoir and stream levels.
However, the utility said water use restrictions are still necessary to ensure supply is fully recharged by next spring. Therefore, customers are being asked to limit water use in the following ways:
n Residents and businesses should limit watering of established lawns and trees to once per week;
n New sod and seed should only be watered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; and
n Residents are asked not to wash cars or use hoses to clean sidewalks, driveways, or other surfaces.
Citizens Water is warning that if dry weather returns and voluntary conservation measures are not effective, mandatory restrictions could return.
