Myers opens 2012 season with 'I Do! I Do!'

HILLSBORO - Myers Dinner Theatre announces the first show in their 2012 season, "I Do! I Do!" opens Feb. 8.

The show features book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, the creators of "The Fantasticks." The romantic comedy runs through Feb. 25 at Myers, 108 Water St. Shows are primarily on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and Friday and Saturday evenings. The Feb. 11 evening show will be a special Valentine's celebration and feature a prime rib buffet dinner. Other performances are available and may be reserved by calling (765) 798-4902 ext. 2.

In this two-character musical comedy, 50 years of marriage is examined. The show begins with Michael and Agnes preparing for their wedding day and follows them up to the point they are ready to give their house up to a newly married couple. Along the way, the audience accompanies them through wedding night jitters, the birth of their children, the difficulties of keeping a marriage fresh, and the loneliness of becoming empty-nesters.

All of these significant events are accompanied by a score that includes "My Cup Runneth Over," "Flaming Agnes," "The Honeymoon Is Over," and the title song.

The original 1966 Broadway production starred Mary Martin and Robert Preston and was directed by Gower Champion. Director Michael Moyer, Indianapolis, plays Michael, the mostly-oblivious husband, and Ginny Spillman, Indianapolis, plays Agnes, the long-suffering but feisty wife. Live accompaniment is provided by John Blair of Crawfordsville.

Weekday and Saturday matinees begin with dinner at noon and show at 1:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday evening performances with dinner at 6:30 p.m. and show at 8 p.m.

Cost for dinner and show is $36 (tax included); children ages 4 to 18 are $25. Group prices also are available, as are show-only tickets for $20.
