Smithville foundation awards $30,000 to HCCF

The Hendricks County Community Foundation's request for a $30,000 grant has been approved by the Smithville Charitable Foundation, HCCF officials have announced.

The funds will be applied to a variety of programs and projects in Hendricks County, including the Community Foundation's FAFSA Days program on college financial aid (provided for parents and students this February at local high schools), the Hendricks Regional Health Foundation, improvements to the Lizton Lions Club Park, the Cartlidge Barn relocation and renovation, and LINK, the Hendricks County Senior Services transportation assistance program. A portion of the funds will also go toward operating expenses of the HCCF.

HCCF Executive Director William A. Rhodehamel noted that the community foundation continuously researches and pursues funding opportunities that fit its mission and supported organizations, and that the Smithville Charitable Foundation is an excellent match of resources to causes.

"We're very grateful to the Smithville Charitable Foundation for its thorough review of our application and its decision to support programs and organizations that benefit the citizens of Hendricks County and add to their quality of life," he said in a press release, adding that the HCCF will submit reports to the Smithville Charitable Foundation on the impact of the grant.

The Smithville Charitable Foundation is a private organization founded in 2007 in Ellettsville. Its primary goal is to enrich lives, create opportunities, and bring the necessities of life to communities in this area. The foundation provides funding and supplies to charities and public organizations.

The Hendricks County Community Foundation works to improve the quality of life in Hendricks County by helping donors match their passion with community needs, awarding grants to non-profit organizations and projects, and collaborating to address community issues. The community foundation manages an $8 million collection of funds created by individuals, families, businesses, and organizations for charitable purposes. In 2011 the community foundation gave more than $625,000 in grants to charitable organizations and scholarships to local students.
