Fall property taxes due in November

To save tax dollars, the Hendricks County Treasurer's Office mailed the spring "A" and fall "B" coupons in the same envelope.

Property owners will not receive a new fall "B" coupon in the mail. The fall "B" tax installment is due Nov. 10. Spring "A" installments of the 2010-11 property taxes are now past due. A 10 percent penalty is now due on the spring "A" installment.

There is often confusion when a property is sold about who is responsible for the property taxes. This is an agreement made by the buyer and seller. The treasurer is not a party to or has no knowledge of the agreement. For any questions about property tax payments, call the treasurer's office at 745-9220 or e-mail to treasurerdept@co.hendricks.in.us.

Operating hours for conducting business in the treasurer's office are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 5 and will have extended hours on the deadline, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 10. The auditor's and assessor's offices will also be open.

Payment may also be made at the following Hendricks County banks: First Merchants Bank, First National Bank, Hendricks County Bank and Trust, Huntington Bank, M&I Bank, North Salem State Bank, and State Bank of Lizton.

Payments are not posted until they are received by the Hendricks County Treasurer. Taxpayers must present their "B" copy at the bank, along with their payment. The bank is unable to accept delinquent "A" portions of the statement or any prior years' taxes. Come in or call the treasurer's office to obtain the correct amount of the payment.

If mailing a tax payment, remember that it is considered on time if postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before Nov. 10. Payments should be mailed to the Hendricks County Treasurer, P.O. Box 6037, Indianapolis, IN 46206-6037. If there is any question about whether a payment will have a timely postmark, taxpayers are encouraged to obtain a certificate of mailing from the post office.

Credit card payments are available through a third-party provider. A convenience fee of 3.5 percent will be added to the total. Hendricks County does not receive any portion of that fee. Pay at the treasurer's office, online at govpaynow.com, or call (888) 604-7888. Taxpayers will be asked for the Pay Location Code of 6497.

The treasurer's night deposit box is on the south side of the Hendricks County Government Center, 355 S. Washington St., Danville, by the south entrance doors. Payments deposited in this box at any time prior to midnight Nov. 10 will be considered on time.
