AVON — The Avon-Washington Township Public Library is gearing up for its annual ArtScape event from 7 to 9 p.m. April 21.
This year’s event features a lineup that is different -- and closer to home -- than in years past.
”There are interesting things about each and every one of the artists this year,” said Diane Elmore, community relations director with the library. “The really interesting thing about this year’s group is that they all have Hendricks County connections. In past years, they were from throughout the state. All of them this year either live, work, or have a Hendricks County connection.”
Advance tickets for the event are $15 per person or $25 per couple. Tickets are $20 per person on the day of the event.
”We have great food,” Elmore said. “Our chef came from Las Vegas and got on with us five years ago. She is as creative with the food as the artists are with their work. Some of her items will be auctioned off as well.”
In addition to the food basket, other auction items include a full-length mink coat, a leather jacket, pieces of art from the featured artists, a chance to be featured as the library’s “Geek of the Week,” tutoring services, and a special Lincoln Land package that includes tickets and a rental car.
”The silent auction items are very exciting,” Elmore said. “We have some items that we could never have dreamed of.”
Elmore said the money raised from the event goes to bringing special programs to the library. This year, they were able to bring an Iditarod program to the library. She said they are also able to purchase equipment to protect their books and magazines, as well as equipment to educate the public with iPads, Nooks, and Kindles. She said the “sky is the limit” as to what they can do with the funds.
This year’s show will include artists who work with blown glass and metals, landscapes and portraits in oil, watercolor, fiber and fabric. There will also be a cartoonist, exhibits from Avon High School students, and the Smiley Glee Club from radio station WZPL-99.5.
”You do not have to wear a suit and tie, heels, or dress up to attend,” Elmore said. “It is a casual event, where you can talk to the artists, eat food, bid on cool items, and help the library at the same time.”
