There’s nothing like an evening of laughter and a brand new show at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre to bring in the new year.
I have to admit I was a bit nervous prior to seeing the performance, being that this performance was not a musical. I do love musicals, yet “Run For Your Wife” brought back the classics of “Three’s Company” meets “Married with Children.” There was non-stop laughter throughout the evening. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life as I did when Stanley Gardner, played by Jeff Stockberger, eats a newspaper in hopes of keeping his neighbor John Smith, played by Eddie Curry, in the clear with his double life.
“Run For Your Wife” is a London comedy written by Ray Cooney that is based on the life of John Smith, a cab driver who leads anything but an ordinary life. Smith is happily married, but to two women. His wives — Barbara Smith, played by Jill Kelly, and Mary Smith, played by Sarah Hund — are unaware of each other. Each wife shares a home with John. Their husband is able to keep both marriages to both wives by sticking to a precise schedule.
Everything runs smoothly for John until his schedule is disturbed by a head injury which leaves reporters and the police questioning if there are “two” John Smiths. Stanley gives his neighbor John some assistance after learning the truth about his secret life. John tries all he can to keep his secrets from being revealed.
There are 34 scheduled performances of “Run For Your Wife” running now through Feb. 5. Beef & Boards is at 9301 North Michigan Rd., Indianapolis. Tickets include a buffet dinner and a show, with prices ranging from $33 to $55 with discounts available for children ages 3-15. Group discounts are also available. Parking is always free.
Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre also has a private room, known as The Producer’s Table, that can accommodate parties of two to six people. That area is separated from the main theatre and includes a private dinner buffet and perfect viewing of the staged performance.
