U.S. Army National Guard 1st Lt. Brent M. Nelson has arrived at the Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center as a member of the 38th Infantry Division’s Task Force Cyclone to complete mobilization training for a future deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The 38th Infantry Division is an Army National Guard division based in Indianapolis.
Task Force Cyclone’s mission is to provide assistance to the Afghan government in security, construction, economic, and agricultural support in assigned areas of operations. They will also facilitate the reception, training, housing, and sustainment of U.S. troops entering the country.
While at the training center, soldiers work on individual training, weapons qualifications, driver’s training, medical training, Humvee rollover training, and many other training tasks.
Nelson is an intelligence officer and has served in the military for five years. He is the son of Danny and Susan Nelson of Brownsburg. His wife, Ashley, is the daughter of Craig and Beverly Scruggs of Avon.
Nelson graduated from Brownsburg High School in 2002 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie in ‘06.
