Pizzeria keeps on rockin'

BROWNSBURG — Rock Star Pizzeria has been open in Brownsburg for more than four years and recently relocated to a new shop at 922 E. Main St.

The popular restaurant is owned and operated by Ron and Colby

Mathews who say they're excited to now be in the Brownsburg

Shoppes shopping center.

"People have been asking if we closed since we moved from

downtown," Colby said.

Rock Star Pizzeria offers a variety of gourmet pizzas.

"We have the Big Mac pizza, which actually has thousand island dressing," Ron said. "Our Caribbean twist pizza was named to the top 20 list. It's really different."

He said the secret to a delicious pizza is in the sauce.

"I have the secret recipe for the sauce from Famous Ray's in New York," Ron Mathews said. "When the guy who had that restaurant retired, he moved to San Diego. He opened a restaurant there and I worked for him. It's a really full-flavored sauce."

When Rock Star first opened, the couple they wanted to corner the market in thin crust pizza. They've gone on to add hand tossed and deep dish pizza.

"It's a really good Chicago-style pizza," Colby said. "We wanted to fill the niche that was left when Sweet Home Chicago closed."

The restaurant hosts family nights where children can get a balloon animal, have their face painted, and get a caricature of themselves drawn.

"We've also just started serving fresh baked chocolate chip cookies," Colby said.

They will also host parties.

"They can be brought in a limo, have VIP badges, and a photographer to complete the experience," Colby said. "And all the rock memorabilia you see on the walls is real. It's from my time in the music business."

The couple is very involved in the community, helping by donating pizzas as often as they can.

"Recently, we sent pizzas to the high school for the football team as well as for parent/teacher conferences," she said.

And they do deliver. They're still setting their delivery area, but will take a pizza to as far west as Pittsboro, north to County Road 1000 North, Avon to the south, and Clermont to the east.

"And if it's a slow night, you might be able to get one in Speedway," Ron said. "It just depends on what we have going on."

The restaurant even offers a challenge to big pizza eaters in the form of a 30-inch "monster" pizza.

"If two people finish the entire pizza in 45 minutes, they get a $50 gift certificate and their photo on the wall," Colby said.

They pride themselves on being a locally-owned restaurant.

"I'm originally from just down the road in Lebanon," Colby said.

Ron graduated from Southport High School and always had close friends who lived in Brownsburg.

"I always knew I wanted to live here when I started a family," he said.

"You still have that small town feel and the schools are really good."

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
