NORTH SALEM —
North Salem State Bank is committed to offering its customers excellence in service, all the while participating in community service projects.
President Matt Howrey has been at the helm for nearly 18 months and says he’s completely confident in his staff.
“We’ve had tremendous success, even in this bad economy,” Howrey said. “We’ve been fortunate to hit our goals every time.”
In 2010, NSSB had almost $140 million in assets. Now the company has $165 million in assets.
“And we’re looking to expand again this year,” Howrey said. “Our three Hendricks County locations have been a God send. We’re very lucky to be here.”
He said agriculture has been extremely supportive of NSSB.
NSSB is locally owned and was founded in 1923 in North Salem. It began expanding its market area in 1989 when it opened the first Danville branch. That remained the only branch until 1995, when a third office was opened in the Kroger store in Danville. Two other branches were opened in 1996 — one in Greencastle and one in Waveland.
The Danville Kroger location was closed when a new Danville branch was opened in the Old Farm Village shopping area.
“We also have a very supportive board of directors and great employees,” Howrey said. “We have the best group of tellers around.”
The staff continues to serve customers with the bank’s motto in mind, “Where Caring Still Counts!”
“We all work here, shop here,” he said. “We have to work hard to compete.”
NSSB currently has five branches — the main branch is still in North Salem. There are two branches in Danville, one in Greencastle, and one in Waveland.
The bank offers a wide range of services, both personal and business. NSSB also offers personal loans for auto, recreational vehicles, home improvements, and vacations. Mortgage loans are also available including fixed rates, variable rates, condominium loans, FHA loans, and for investment real estate. Home equity and construction loans are also available.
North Salem State Bank also offers trust and financial services.
The bank’s staff and leadership is also committed to giving back to the community that supports them.
The bank has helped to support the Hendricks County Community Foundation, Habit of the Heart, Sheltering Wings Center for Women, Hendricks Regional Health, Hendricks County 4-H Fair, and recently got on board helping Susie’s Place, Hendricks County’s child advocacy center. They’ve also helped local schools and school programs.
“It’s important for us to give back,” Howrey said. “And we have fun with it, so giving back is enjoyable for us.”
