Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU), along with its members, raised more than $73,000 in a school supply campaign which will provide 3,500 backpacks and school supplies to underprivileged children.
This total is a result of branch promotions at the credit union’s 24 branches, as well as donations from its annual “Bowl-A-Thon” employee fundraising event, rummage sale, and fundraising golf open.
“Year after year, IMCU members, employees, board of directors and volunteers never seize to amaze me,” IMCU CEO Ron Collier said in a press release. “I couldn’t be prouder of our organization and the community for stepping up and providing the pertinent tools for students to be successful in their education. There is a definite need which local businesses can suffice. IMCU was founded in education, on the campus of IUPUI, and therefore our principles are rooted in helping others succeed. We are dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we serve and I personally would like to thank everyone for their sincere generosity and support. We continue to encourage others to help us in this effort to aid our children with their education.”
Enough funds were raised for IMCU to donate more than 87,500 supplies such as backpacks, erasers, pencils, calculators, crayons, markers, notebooks, pens, art boxes, pencil sharpeners, rulers, paper, scissors, folders, colored pencils, and glue sticks.
IMCU employees volunteered their time to fill the backpacks at a “Stuffing Party” at Primo South Banquet and Conference Center, 2615 E. National Ave., Indianapolis.
Children were able to receive a free backpack during the event when accompanied by an adult. Indiana Pacers Mascot, Boomer, and Indiana Fever Mascot, Freddy Fever, were also on hand.
It’s reported that 83 percent of the families in the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) need help with basic school supplies. IMCU has partnered with programs in Marion and surrounding counties to provide underprivileged children with the supplies they need to start the school year. The programs included Marion County BackPack Attack, Hendricks County BackPack Attack, Johnson County FastTrack Program, Franklin Township FastTrack Program, Carmel Clay Township Trustee, Westfield Open Doors Project, Grant County’s Get on the Bus Program, Noblesville Trustee, Muncie Mission, BackPack Attack through Salvation Army, Decatur Township, Warren Township Common Goal, Zionsville Community School Corporation, School on Wheels, and Roy Holland Backpacks for Kids.
