Avon consignment shop now under new ownership

Prom dresses ready for purchase

AVON — Suzy Pineda jumped at the chance to purchase a consignment shop in Avon.

“I was an employee of the previous owner,” Pineda said. “I loved it. I’ve been a consignment shopper all my life.”

Pineda’s Suzy’s Consign & Resale is in Avon at 9719 E. U.S. 36. She took over the shop in December.

“Sales have been up in January and February,” she said. “We’ve had a great month.”

Suzy’s is a great place to get designer clothing and accessories at a fraction of the original cost.

“If you have items you want to consign you just give us a call and make an appointment,” Pineda explained. “They must be in-season clothes. We review them and get them ready for the sales floor.”

The consignor receives 40 percent of the selling price except those selling for more than $50. The shop takes clothing from size 0 to 4X.

“If the item sells for $50 or more they get 50 percent of the selling price,” Pineda said. “It’s kind of like a bonus for them. So when people bring in Coach bags or prom dresses they are going to get 50 percent of the sales price.”

Items are then left on the sales floor for 60 days.

“If the items don’t sell we give them to a local charity,” Pineda said. “The Calvary Bible Wesleyan Church in Plainfield has a food and clothing pantry.”

She said if the items are valued at $50 or more the staff will call the consignor to see if they would rather pick them up.

“We have a lot of regular consignors,” she said. “And a lot of our consignors are also shoppers. This really is a great place to get good quality clothes.

“And we really like to get to know our shoppers,” Pineda said. “I really like it when I can greet them by name.”

Right now the staff is ready for prom season. The shop has several racks of prom dresses in all shapes and sizes.

“The girls really have fun when they come in to look at prom dresses,” Pineda said.

She’s preparing to add a vintage section to the shop.

“I want to have clothes from the ’20s to the ’70s,” Pineda said. “That’s what I love — vintage clothing. I have always felt I was born in the wrong decade. And Hendricks County needs something like this.”

The staff will host a grand opening event March 2 and 3. There will be a sale and a few special prizes.

Suzy’s Consign & Resale is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. From April to September, the staff will stay open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

“We are going to see how that works,” Pineda said. “We would like to offer those hours for the working ladies. We want them to be able to come in.”

She shop is closed on Sunday.
