PLAINFIELD —
The Hendricks County Flyer has received reports that about 32 people working at the Amazon Distribution Center in Plainfield were taken to area hospitals after suffering from flu- and cold-like symptoms, in addition to chest pains and difficulty breathing.
Authorities believe the illnesses were caused by coming into contact with a “foreign substance that appeared in one of the trucks.”
None of the injuries are said to be life threatening, according to a Plainfield Fire Department official.
They told the Flyer that the substance looked to have the consistency of crushed red pepper and that it perhaps got on someone’s clothing and was spread airborne.
People are currently being released from the hospital and Amazon has shut down until the next shift at 3:30 p.m. as a precautionary measure.
More information will be published as it becomes available.
