Police investigate death of infant

BROWNSBURG — Police here are investigating the death of a 4-month-old girl at an unlicensed daycare facility.

The girl died July 18 at a home daycare, that Det. Sgt. Jennifer Pyatt with the Brownsburg Police Department said was unlicensed. Pyatt said the owner of the daycare was issued a “cease and desist notice” on July 24.

The child was found unresponsive in her play pen in the Lake Ridge subdivision home. Pyatt said Brownsburg Fire Territory was called to the home around 10 a.m. CPR was performed before the infant was rushed to IU Health West Hospital in Avon, where she was pronounced dead.

According to Indiana Code 12-17.2-5-1, a person may not operate a home child care without a license issued if there are more than six unrelated children in the home.

Pyatt said there were 10 to 14 children and five adults in the home at the time of the incident.

Pyatt said no charges have been filed and foul play is not necessarily suspected, but they are awaiting autopsy results from the Hendricks County Coroner.

”This is a death investigation,” she said. “We are looking into every possibility.”

The autopsy was done on July 19 and Pyatt said that it takes four to six weeks to get results.
