Pedestrian killed on U.S. 40

Hendricks County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian at about 5 a.m. Friday on U.S. 40, west of County Road 450 West near Stilesville.

Police say Terry King, 25, of Fillmore, was in the left lane of eastbound U.S. 40 when his vehicle struck Andrew Moore, 20, of Concord, Calif.

Moore was reportedly walking near the median fog line of eastbound U.S. 40, wearing a reflective vest, when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman walking with him was uninjured.

King, who was on his way to work at the time of the crash, was transported to Hendricks Regional Health in Danville to be treated for minor injuries.

Moore was a member of Crossroads, a pro-life group walking across America to raise awareness. He and the woman with him were walking from San Francisco, Calif., to Washington, D.C., and had just been dropped off by a van.

Crossroads is a Civil Rights organization founded in 1995 in response to Pope John Paul II’s call for youth of the world to take an active role in the pro-life movement. The group makes annual pilgrimages across the country, via four routes that all wind up in D.C. The young people walk more than 12,000 miles and through 40 states, stopping at various locales to speak to groups and encourage pro-life activism.

Authorities say there is no indication that King’s vehicle was off the roadway at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. There was a misting of rain and a light fog.

Authorities say the crash is still under investigation.
