PLAINFIELD — Care packages, phone cards, health supplies, and hygiene supplies — the list of supplies that soldiers need is never ending, and one local comedy agent is teaming up with Timothy’s Pub to make sure our troops aren’t going without.
“There is a lot of military background in our family, so we’ve always been somewhat partial to supporting our troops” Chris Kuhn, owner of Timothy’s Pub. “This bar has always had a reputation for doing (charity). We really want to be part of this community, and we really think there are a lot more people we can help through this place.”
And on Sept. 12, the pub will team up with Elite Comedy Productions of Central Indiana to do just that.
StandUp for the Troops Indiana! will start at 8:30 p.m. at the pub and feature comedians Dario of Louisville, Ky., Dave Dugan of the Bob & Tom Show and host of the “Hangover Cafe” on X103, and Greg Warren of the Bob & Tom Show and featured on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend.
Becky Porter of Elite Comedy Productions said that they are teaming up with anysoldier.com to provide troops with the supplies they need.
“People, instead of paying admission to the event, will instead bring something off of the list that the troops need,” Porter said. “I have a lot of military people in my family, in fact my son is serving in the Coast Guard. It is very near and dear to my heart. They are still over there and need our support.”
Common items needed are phone cards, foot and body powder, beef jerky, body wash, shampoo, flavored drink mix packets, baby wipes, skin lotion, ground coffee, tea bags, lip balm, power bars, trail mixes, feminine hygiene products, snack foods, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, shaving cream, energy drinks, and deodorant. A complete list off all needed items can be found at the Any Soldier website. Cash donations will also be accepted at the door and throughout the evening to help defray the coast of shipping and to purchase additional items.
For those who do not want to attend the show but would like to donate, items can also be dropped off at the Law Office of Kendall, Wood, Lowry, and Kessinger at One South Main St. in Danville or the American Legion Post 145 at 375 S. S.R. 267 in Avon.
Show sponsors are the Any Soldier organization, SAC Graphics of Coatesville, Petri Printing in Danville, Bertram Realty in Indianapolis and the Avon American Legion Post 145.
