Brownsburg Garden Tour

BROWNSBURG — Those seeking expert gardening advice or simply looking to enjoy nature are invited to attend this weekend's fifth annual Brownsburg Garden Tour.

The event will feature seven residential gardens from across the community that may be visited in any order.

Upon purchasing a ticket, attendees receive a map to the gardens, located throughout Brownsburg's neighborhoods. Volunteers will be stationed in front of the gardens to take tickets, and each garden’s owner will be on hand to answer questions.

"You can start anywhere you want and do part one day and part the other day," said Carol Scott, one of the event's organizers. "There will be an English garden, a big pond with lilies in it, walking paths with nature areas, and a nice small garden at a house on West Chase Golf Course. Most people spend a considerable amount of time at each garden."

The tour is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are available at Wicker Works and Country Harmony - both on North Green Street. Cost is $10 in advance and $12 the day of the event.

There will also be a raffle drawing and prizes.

Proceeds benefit the Tia Foundation, which supports homeless and harmed animals through the Hendricks County Animal Shelter. Scott's daughter, Monica, created the foundation in memory of her collie, Tia, whom she obtained from the Humane Society seven years ago when the animal was 9 years old and just a day away from being euthanized.

The garden tour was created five years ago as a way to benefit the foundation, which recently donated $1,500 worth of food and other supplies to the Hendricks County Animal Shelter.

"It's a nice day out for people in Brownsburg," Scott said. "It's a nice cultural thing for people to do and, of course, it goes to a good cause."
