PLAINFIELD — Firefighters responded to a trailer fire early Wednesday that sent to children and an adult male to the hospital.
Emergency officials were dispatched to a fire around 1:30 a.m. in the Maple Grove Trailer Park behind Wal-Mart. Police officers from Plainfield and the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department arrived first to find two adults outside the trailer, which had heavy fire and smoke on its south end.
One of the adults re-entered the trailer to retrieve two children who were still inside. Police officers and neighbors assisted in rescuing the children and pulled the adult male to safety.
The children were transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation. The adult male was taken to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis to be treated for the same type of injuries. An adult female was not injured.
Firefighters from Plainfield and Avon/Washington Township responded. They brought the fire under control before there was any damage to the three trailers in close proximity.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
