Marvin and Deanna Henderson of Martinsville will mark their 50th wedding anniversary on June 16.
Mr. Henderson and the former Deanna Lewis were married June 16, 1962, by the Rev. Potter.
Mr. Henderson graduated from Martinsville High School in 1962. He worked several years for A.H. Stanley before joining Parker GMC as a mechanic and then as night shift supervisor. In 1976, he and his brother, George Henderson, purchased A.H. Stanley’s farm implement dealership and operated it as Henderson Implement Sales, Inc. until 1991. After selling the dealership, he worked 10 years as a driver for Sodrel.
He continues to buy and repair tractors, having an avid interest in the antique tractor business. He attends and speaks at conferences and was the guest speaker at the Prairie Gold Conference this past April. He also enjoys tractor pulling, fishing, farming, and camping.
Mrs. Henderson graduated from George Washington High School in 1966 and then took accounting courses at Ivy Tech. She first worked as a bookkeeper at Markey’s Ideal Pictures, then became a medical assistant at Avon Medical Clinic. In 1976, she became the office manager of Henderson Implement Sales, Inc. In 1986, she earned a brokerage license and became an operations supervisor for Unified Management Corporation. In 1995, she joined IUPUI as administrative secretary to the chair of oral biology and assistant to the director of graduate studies. She enjoys gardening and fishing.
While residing in Hazelwood, the Hendersons were members of Hazelwood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent, and director of Vacation Bible School and she served as Sunday school secretary, Awana leader, and music committee chairman. Mr. Henderson also designed and helped build the church’s activity building.
Upon moving to Clayton, the couple joined the First Baptist Church of Danville where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, played softball, and designed and built the church’s softball diamond, and she served in the nursery, on the music committee, and as a Vacation Bible School leader.
The Hendersons are the parents of Catrina (Wayne) Stephenson of Martinsville, Cathy (Brian) Summerlot of Danville, Marvin Douglas Henderson Jr. (Terry) of Grand Junction, Mich., and Sherry (Eric) Thornton of Cincinnati, Ohio. They have 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The couple’s children are hosting a reception in their honor from 2 to 5 p.m. June 16 at the American Legion Post 230, 701 E. Morgan St., Martinsville.
