Ross Edward and Alberta Gillespie will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on Sept. 2.
Borrowing $10 and a car in 1936, the couple eloped, driving from Bellefontaine, Ohio, to Muncie. After graduating from high school, they started their family.
Mr. Gillespie went to work for the New York Central Railroad, which later became Penn Central. He retired in 1977 after 36 years of service.
Mrs. Gillespie worked many years for Hook’s Drugs. They are members of the Westlake First Church of God.
The Gillespies have three sons, Wesley, James, and Terry; three daughters-in-law, Marsha, Mary Jo, and Jeanie; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
With many members of the extended family and friends, they will celebrate their anniversary at the annual Labor Day gathering/cookout at Jim Gillespie’s farm in Sadieville, Ky.
